RESUME

A resume is usually between 3 to 4 pages in length. It is designed to reflect your abilities, qualifications and experience as accurately and as clearly as possible. A resume aims to attain one major objective:  to get an interview.

It is a good idea to have a resume reviewed/ written by a professional. There are experts who have specialised in the careers field. A professional resume writer has excellent writing skills, varied experience, thorough knowledge of the job market and a deep understanding of employers' needs. Moreover, he/ she has a superior marketing and selling skills, which will be utilised to highlight your abilities, experience and qualifications to a prospective employer/ recruiter. Your resume will show you in the best light, therefore, you should expect to get more job interviews. 


COVER LETTER

Ideally, every job application should be accompanied by a cover letter. A cover letter should contain a summary of your background, skills, qualifications and experience. In addition, it should specify reasons why your application should be considered. A well written cover letter will influence the employer/ recruitment agent to read your resume. Therefore, a cover letter is essentially a well presented 'SALES' letter.

At Career Design, you will receive a free standard cover letter if you have taken a resume, which is a minimum of 3 pages in length. A tailor-made cover letter will cost you an extra amount, and this will depend on the position you are applying for

In most situations, your application for a public service position will consist of a resume, responses to the selection criteria and a one page cover letter. Each department/ organisation has its own application requirements and procedure for applying. Please read the application guidelines carefully and call the Contact Officer for clarification, if required. If a one page cover letter is a requirement for the job application, this can be the for  important document within your application. Your cover letter gives you an opportunity to grasp the reader’s interest and encourage him/ her to continue evaluating your application. The information you provide should include a brief description on why you are the most suitable candidate for the role. In your application, you should clearly specify the role you are applying for and a list of your key skills which are relevant to the position requirement.

The responses to the selection criteria should clearly demonstrate that you will be able to effectively perform in the role. You should address the selection criteria through various examples drawn from your previous work experience, education and qualifications achieved. You should also explain how your skills and capabilities can be utilised in the role within thorganisation. It is imperative to provide strong, relevant and concise examples. Please ensure that you strictly follow the page, word or character limits as specified within the job advertisement details. 


THE WAY WE WORK

At Career Design International, we read a client’s resume, the 

position description and the selection criteria very thoroghly 

to ensure that he/ she meets the requirements of the role. 

Subsequently we hold a telephone consultation with the client to 

gather detailed information. Based on the responses received by 

applying effective questioning techniques, we write a statement 

addressing the selection criteria.


INTERVIEW TECHNIQUES

Just as there are techniques available for everything, there are interview techniques in place - skills and methods that can achieve positive outcomes for you. 

Welcome to Career Design for a short telephone consultation. You will know how to prepare for an interview, how to dress, exactly when to arrive for the scheduled interview and what questions to expect. You will also learn how to present yourself, speak with confidence and impress the interviewer.

At Career Design, a 15 minute tele-consultation on interview techniques will cost you only $20. Should the consultation continue for up to 30 minutes, it will cost you $30. Following the consultation, we will be able to communicate via e-mail, should you require customised information

JOB SEARCH METHODS

A number of methods are available for an effective job search campaign. Looking for a job requires intelligent planning, proper organisational skills, utilisation of appropriate methods and application of the right techniques. Timing is also important and equally important is selling skills.

At Career Design, a short telephone consultation on job search methods will cost you only $60. If you have been unemployed for over 6 months, you will need to pay $30, which is a 50% discount.

ABOUT

Abdur Quaderi migrated to Australia from Bangladesh as a management professional during 1994. After being in Australia, he started working in a sales position with Commonwealth Bank and subsequently performed for many other blue chip organisations in sales and coaching roles. These organisations included large reputed enterprises such as AMP, Australian Guarantee Corporation (AGC) and Capital Finance Australia Ltd.

In the mean time, during 1997, he established Career Design, a business that offered management as well as business development opportunities. Later on, during 2002, he established Reliance Business Services. He then moved to Brisbane (Queensland) from Sydney (New South Wales) and the name of Career Design was changed to Career Design International. During 2006, he established Management Trends in Brisbane, Queensland.

Previously, in Bangladesh, he worked in various management positions with large organisations. Highlights of his career were employment as Account Manager with Bank of Credit and Commerce International, Executive Director with Abedin Group of Industries, Project Office Manager with House of Consultants Ltd and Sales Executive for Bangladesh Tobacco Company Ltd, a subsidiary of British American Tobacco Company and a Global Fortune 500 company. Between 2007 and 2011, he worked [intermittently] as Management Consultant for Eskayef Bangladesh Ltd. and Apex Pharma Ltd., two large and reputed Bangladeshi pharmaceutical companies. His areas of expertise have been HR development, systems and process improvement and business development. 

During his career, Abdur worked for numerous organisations, which has given him the skills required for effective job search and resume writing. These skills, combined with his creative writing ability has been the foundation for Career Design International. With experience acquired through over 30 organisations in USA, Bangladesh and Australia, Abdur has gained practical business and management skills, upon which Management Trends was built. Out of the various organisations he worked for, 6 were in the Global Fortune 500 list (or their subsidiaries), therefore the training and experience he acquired through these organisations were successfully consolidated and utilised at Career Design International and Management Trends.

Abdur possesses a Master of Commerce degree (specialising in Management) acquired through University of Dhaka, in Bangladesh. He graduated with First Class (top grade). He has also completed 24 semester hours towards the MBA degree at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Nova University and Texas Southern University at USA. He has maintained an impressive academic record, which included being placed 1st in the Humanities Group in Rajshahi Board in SSC Examination at Bangladesh. His rank then was 1/ 25,000 approximately. He was also placed 10th in the Commerce Group in Dhaka Board, achieving a rank of 10/6,000 approximately.

Abdur has served over 2,600 clients (individuals) in 14 years through his own businesses Career Design International, Reliance Business Services and Management Trends. The main services rendered were resume writing, job search consulting, computer training, career training, small business training, management training and management consulting.
